My Riced out fake carbon fiber acer
Mar 11th, 2007 by xd
This is my fake Acer Carbon edition project. Faced with the same drab gray color most people get when they deal with Acer I made a decision. I needed to change the look of this thing. Self I thought what can I do. Well after seeing many “fast and furious street racer types with carbon fiber interior. I set out to see how they do it. After braving one parking lot gathering of these hosers. I had my answer, fake carbon fiber laminate. It is durable; fade proof and a hell of a lot cheaper than voiding my warranty and painting it. So off I went on my search. Where you ask? Well to the only place to get the finest ricer products on the planet ebay!! After trying the search for ricer and coming upon lighted exhausts, and glowing things that would not fit my laptop I found That which I searched. Carbon fiber vinyl woot!!! I got mine for 9.99 buy it now, pretty good deal when you think about it paint costs about 100.00. My reasoning was what did I really have to lose for 10 bux right.
Some may ask why do this, welp after about 6 months of in my book bag out of my book bag my laptop was scratched to all hell and mighty crappy. I had first looked into painting, then the laptop skins. At 30-50.00 I felt this was too expensive and personally I don’t like hello kitty ( if you have searched for these skins you know what I mean).
Before

This is what I wanted

Anyway here we go for this project you will need.
- carbon fiber vinyl (Ebay is the cheapest )
- scissors
- A heat gun or blow dryer
- razor blade
- rubbing alcohol
- credit card
The first thing that you do is wipe down you laptop with the alcohol. If cleans the gunk off and allows better adhesion.
The second thing that I did was laid the vinyl on the lid of my laptop and cut it to size (make sure to leave enough to wrap around the sides)
Now applying this stuff is the key. You want to smooth it out as you go so as to not allow bubbles. I found this video on youtube.com showing how “professionals†apply this stuff
Watch this
These guys sell it but it costs a hell of allot more than on eBay
Remember to heat it up to wrap around the edges
Any way this is what it looks like. Mine is about 4 months old and is holding up fine. I even had enough left over to do my mouse.

I will do full pictures the next time I do it. (After this semester). Just keep it wiped down and it will look pimp. Hell put a Ferrari on it and Impress your friends.

This guide is mentioned at Repair4Laptop in the modding techniques for laptops and notebooks section.
Just wondering about the carbon fiber thickness..the thinnest you can find on ebay is 2.5mm.that’s thick as hell..so how did it fit in the crack between the 2 monitor plastics? it’s about 1mm..I spoke to a person who did this twice and said he used carbon fiber vinyl that’s 0.5mm in thickness..the mod looks kick ass and want to doo it on my NB but just hesitant to use the 2.5″ CFV. thanks!
IT is the .005mm.
Thank you for your question.
